Description
Melanotan II Overview
Melanotan II (MT-II) is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide analog of α-MSH, the naturally occurring peptide that regulates pigmentation through receptor activation.
It was originally developed as a research compound for studying melanogenesis and photoprotective pathways, and has high affinity for its primary target receptor subtypes. Through binding to several pathway targets, it has been examined in research on pigmentation pathways, endocrine signaling and peptide-receptor pharmacology.
Melanotan II Research Focus
Published laboratory and preclinical work on Melanotan II has concentrated on the following areas:
- Melanogenesis
- Photoprotective pathways
- Melanocortin receptor pharmacology
- Comparison of cyclic and linear α-MSH analogs
